Compare / RTK
One composable pipeline.
Or a wider plan overview.
RTK describes itself as "Agent-agnostic token optimization: compress, route, filter, and more." Tokensitter includes read reduction within a wider toolkit.
A composable pipeline, or a wider plan overview?
RTK describes one composable pipeline across everything an agent reads and sends. Its README says rtk optimizes command output before the agent reads it, and the rtk-proxy daemon extends the same engine to the agent's provider-API traffic. Its README says reduced shell output is not the same as cutting your bill by the same amount.
| Compare | Tokensitter | RTK |
|---|---|---|
| Primary path | Read less hooks shorten big test, build and log output and keep the full output saved; a guard handles large whole-file reads. | Compresses shell command output, for example showing only failures for test runs. [1] |
| Coverage | Each lever has its own scope and switch. | rtk optimizes command output before the agent reads it; the rtk-proxy daemon extends the same engine to the agent's provider-API traffic. The Bash hook covers shell calls; for built-in tools it points to rtk read, grep and find. [1] |
| Measurement | Widget figures are tagged measured or estimated; lab results are on the Benchmarks page. | Documents a savings view and states that "percentages are reliable but the absolute token numbers are approximate". [1] |
| Product view | A widget linking plan limits, estimated stretch and API app usage. | A CLI with a savings view (rtk gain); editions and an optional proxy daemon are documented separately. [1] |

Choose for your workflow
Consider Tokensitter for a plan-first overview with several levers. Consider RTK when a composable optimization pipeline for command output and provider traffic is your main need. If you use both, check the output before letting both filter the same command.
We have no controlled head-to-head benchmark against RTK, so this page makes no claim about which saves more or answers better. Our own lab results, with their limits, are on Benchmarks. These are fixed tasks run in a test harness, not your sessions. Your saving depends on your prompts, your files and how long your sessions run.
